With South Africa currently experiencing one of the driest seasons on record, Netcare is asking South Africans to embrace the spirit ubuntu and by dontating a bottle of water for every bottle they buy for themselves.
“The situation in South Africa has become dire, with many who do not have access to water – a basic need. Netcare is challenging its staff, patients, visitors and other companies to support their fellow countrymen through its ‘drink one, donate one’ initiative,” says Netcare general manager emergency, trauma, transplant and corporate social investment, Mande Toubkin.
Toubkin asserts that while South Africans are known to embrace the spirit of ubuntu with their compassion and want to help, many people out there do not know how they can assist.
“The initiative will be launched across the country with centralised water drop-off points at all Netcare hospitals, Medicross centres, National Renal Care facilities, Netcare Education campuses and Netcare 911 bases around the country,” Toubkin explains.
“The water crisis in South Africa has far-reaching implications for the dignity and health of people and, although we will not be able to provide water for all the affected areas, we can certainly assist and make a meaningful difference. Water is essential to living and is life sustaining. We at Netcare believe every little bit will help.”
“Whether people bring a 500 ml, one- or five- litre water bottle, it will make a difference to a person who has no water to drink. We want to encourage South Africans to just drop off the water; we will collect it and ensure it is given to communities in need,” she adds.
“When you buy a bottle of water for yourself, please consider buying an extra bottle and help someone in need,” she concludes.
